In the heat of the summer, unexpectedly high electric bills this year led many families to make difficult choices. Seniors, oftentimes living on a fixed income, have had to choose between keeping the lights on, food on the table, or medicine.
The situation is dire, with nearly 40% of Americans unable to cover an unexpected expense of just $400. Just a few high electricity bills can plunge seniors into significant financial strain, jeopardizing their well-being and quality of life. The impact of these energy costs extends far beyond the walls of their homes.
“As legislators, it’s our responsibility to ensure that New Jersey remains livable and affordable for everyone. We need to explore ways to balance necessary mandates with long-term cost-effective energy solutions. Our public forums, like the one today, are important opportunities to work with utility companies and other stakeholders to find real answers” says Assemblyman Miller.
“Above all, we want our residents to know that we hear them, and we are committed to finding solutions that prioritize both sustainability and affordability.”
