Today, Senator Moriarty’s bill, S2357/A3830, was officially signed into law, marking a significant step toward a more equitable and inclusive unemployment insurance system for New Jersey workers. This legislation addresses key gaps in the system to ensure that workers from all backgrounds receive the support they need. The bill does the following:
Broadens eligibility for part-time workers: Part-time employees who lose a significant source of income can now access unemployment benefits, even if they have other earnings.
Extends dependency benefits to families of disabled adult children: Previously excluded from these benefits, parents caring for disabled adult children will now receive the same level of support as other families.
Removes barriers for full-time student workers: The law eliminates restrictive criteria, allowing full-time student workers to qualify for unemployment benefits without unnecessary complications.
These reforms aim to create a fairer system that supports workers more comprehensively. By addressing the needs of part-time workers, families of disabled adult children, and student workers, the law ensures broader access to vital unemployment benefits.
